The racecourse is based on the North Yorkshire coast in the seaside resort town of Redcar.
The course is a left handed very flat oval circuit of just over 1 mile and 4 furlongs, it also has a 3 furlong chute that joins the course at the top bend next to the straight which allows a 1 mile straight run.
The course is used for flat race meetings and holds 18 race day meetings per year from April to November. Standout meetings at the track are the Tote Zetland Gold Cup Day held at the end of May which features the Zetland Gold Cup which offers a purse of £150,000. The highlight of the autumn season is the Totesport Two Year Old Trophy Day in October which features the John Smith's Straight Mile Championship, Guisborough Stakes as well as the title race.

Flat: Redcar is completely flat. The round course is about 1 mile 4 1/2 furlongs in circumference with a straight run-in of of 5 furlongs. The mile course is perfectly straight and the sprint races are run on it.
