The course in West Yorkshire is based in the medieval town on Pontefract. The course at Pontefract is a two mile left handed circuit with a very testing steep hill in the final 3 furlongs that suits a horse with plenty of stamina.
The racecourse holds 16 meetings annually which are ran from April through to October. Standout meetings at this track are the Pontefract Castle Stakes which is a listed race and held in June and the Silver Tankard Stakes which takes place in October.
In the draw stall advantage lower numbers are favoured in sprints when the ground is soft.
