Gowran Park Racecourse
Gowran Park racecourse is only one kilometre outside the town of Gowran and is 13km east of Kilkenny. After holding its first meeting in 1914 Gowran Park grew in stature throughout the 20th century and it is now one of the top dual purpose tracks that offers both flat and national hunt racing.
A right-handed undulating track it is one mile, four furlongs in length and appeals to horses with stamina. Down the years the Mullins family have been a major boost to the track with current trainer Willie being a regular at Gowran Park.
With a mixture of codes Gowran Park hosts some top races, none more so than the Grade A Tendrleen Theyestes Handicap Chase which attracts a star-studded field. The Galmoy Hurdle, Shamrock Handicap Chase and Gowran Champion Chase are other big races run at the track.
