Aintree is perhaps one of the most famous racecourses in the world, based just six miles away from Liverpool City Centre.
The national hunt track hosts the Grand National, known as the most demanding steeplechase course in the world which takes place annually in April. As well as the Grand National the course is also used for six additional race days throughout the racing calendar.
Over the last 5 seasons the course has been one of the regular battlegrounds for two of the top jump jockeys in Europe, Northern Ireland's Tony McCoy and Ireland's Ruby Walsh. It has also proved to be an excellent course for trainer Peter Bowen who is close to overtaking Paul Nicholls as the most successful trainer at the course.
The course has not only been used for horse racing it has hosted diverse events such as music concerts; the most famous of which was when Michael Jackson ending his 1988 Bad tour at the ground which was attended by 125,000 fans. As well as music events it was also used for motor racing and up until 1962 was the venue for the British Grand Prix.
